Frequently asked questions
What would you like to know?
Find answers about applying, paying for your program, earning credit, and life abroad with Summit.
Applying and eligibility
Requirements, your application, and the personal interview.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate and graduate students from all majors, and recent university graduates, are welcome. Applicants should be at least 18, be enrolled at a university or have recently graduated, and have completed at least one semester of university coursework. The minimum GPA is 2.5, or 77/100 on a 100-point scale. Applications below that threshold are reviewed individually with a reference and an explanation of the academic record.
Should I request information or apply?
Request information if you have questions about courses, costs, housing, dates, or credit transfer. If you have chosen a program, you can start your free application. No payment is required to submit it.
Can I apply if my university is not listed in the form?
Yes. Select Other and enter your university’s name. The list in the form does not limit which universities students may apply from.
Can I apply with a GPA below 2.5?
Yes. We consider these applications individually. You will need a letter of reference, preferably from a professor, and a brief explanation of your academic record. Mention this in the form’s Additional Notes so we can follow up about those materials.
Do I need to be a business major?
No. Students from all majors can apply. Choose courses that interest you and discuss how they could count toward your degree with your academic advisor.
What if my university already works with Summit?
A $500 scholarship applies when your university’s official study-abroad-office website lists the relevant Summit program or provider as approved, preferred, or recommended. Share the listing URL or a screenshot for confirmation. A general resource link or student-club mention does not qualify. The listing does not guarantee transfer credit.
What will we discuss in the interview?
We’ll talk about your academic interests, why you want to study abroad, and what you hope to learn. It is also time for you to ask questions about classes, travel, and life with the group. We want to get to know you and help you understand the program.
Dates and deposits
Program dates, application timing, and confirming your place.
Does applying reserve my place?
Submitting the free application starts the review process; it does not reserve a place. After acceptance, confirm your participation with a $100 deposit within seven days. Summit shares your agreed price and payment schedule before you pay.
Will I have an admission decision within five business days?
Five business days is our usual timeframe for the initial application review. The personal interview follows that review, and we share the admission decision after the interview.
Can I still apply if I missed my university’s study abroad deadline?
Summit may still be able to consider your application. Contact us about your preferred program and speak with your university about any approvals you need. Summit’s availability does not change your university’s rules for credit or financial aid.

Costs, scholarships, and financial aid
What is included and the options for paying for your program.
What is included in the program cost?
In-program housing and health insurance for the full program are included. Expected inclusions also cover transportation between program cities and professional or cultural visits. International airfare is separate. Ask Summit for the full cost breakdown for your program and session.
What kinds of affordability options may be available?
Summit offers early-commitment, student referral, and affiliated-university scholarships. Qualifying Summit awards can combine up to $2,000 per student per program enrollment. Outside aid and installment payments can also help with your budget.
Can I use financial aid from my university?
Your university decides whether institutional, federal, state, or private funding can support an outside program. Ask about approval, documents, deadlines, and disbursement. Summit provides current program and cost materials.
Can scholarships or payment options be combined?
Yes. Qualifying Summit scholarships can combine up to $2,000 per student per program enrollment, including any assistantship award. Outside university aid and other external funding do not use that cap; their providers set their own rules. Installments change when you pay, not the price. Pending referral refunds do not reduce scheduled payments.
Does applying early guarantee a scholarship?
To qualify for an early-commitment offer, submit your complete application by its deadline, receive acceptance, and pay the $100 confirmation deposit within seven days of acceptance. Summit’s review time will not reduce your award. Applications remain rolling after scholarship deadlines, subject to availability.
Does Summit offer need-based financial aid?
Summit does not currently offer a broad need-based grant. Explore early-commitment, referral, and university scholarships, outside aid, and installment schedules. Assistantships are considered only when a student asks and useful work is available.
How does a student referral scholarship work?
A qualifying referral earns $250 for the student making the introduction and $100 for the new student. Two friends who decide together can instead receive $175 each. Individual scholarship caps apply. Awards are later partial refunds, after both students pay in full and enter their own no-refund periods; do not subtract them from installments. Tell Summit who introduced whom so both students can confirm.
What is a student assistantship scholarship?
Summit is not recruiting student assistants. If you ask and useful on-program work is available, we may consider a scholarship of up to $500 for an agreed role. It counts toward the $2,000 combined Summit scholarship cap. A role or award is not guaranteed, and students do not replace responsible staff.
When will I know the amounts and deadlines?
Request pricing and current scholarship amounts, deadlines, and eligibility requirements for your preferred program and session. The Financial Aid & Scholarships page explains awards and payment schedules. Summit confirms your eligible scholarships, agreed price, and payment dates before you pay your deposit.
Courses and credit transfer
Professors, teaching, transcripts, and home-university approval.
Do I need credit approval before I apply?
You can submit a free Summit application while discussing credit with your university. Start that conversation early and obtain written approval before relying on a course to fulfill a degree requirement. Your university may have its own program-approval deadlines and rules.
Can Summit courses count toward my major, minor, or electives?
They may, depending on your university’s review of the specific course. Compare the course description and syllabus with the requirement you want to fulfill, then ask your academic advisor or department for approval. Confirm both the number of credits and the requirement they will satisfy.
What if my university has not worked with Summit before?
Ask your study abroad office how it reviews outside programs. Summit can provide course materials, university-partner information, and answers to your advisor’s questions. Your university makes the approval decision; participation by students from other universities does not replace that review.
What if I change courses after receiving credit approval?
Ask your university to review the replacement course and update your written approval. Approval for one course does not automatically cover another, even when the credit value is the same. Summit can provide the new course materials.
How do I get my official transcript after the program?
Your program’s university partner issues the official transcript: UNYP for Summit Prague + Europe, IQS for Summit Barcelona + Europe, or ESPM for Summit Brazil. Confirm the recipient details with your home university and contact Summit for the partner’s request and delivery instructions. After delivery, check with your university that the credits have been posted.
Who will teach my course?
Teaching assignments depend on your program, session, and course. Summit works with visiting professors and faculty from host universities. Contact us through Request Info for the confirmed teaching details for your session. Profiles labeled Past Program Faculty describe previous programs.
Do professors travel with the group?
Visiting professors may travel with students between cities, while host-university faculty contribute in their local setting. Each professor’s involvement depends on the program and teaching assignment. Summit staff travel and stay with the group throughout the program and provide day-to-day support.
How do professors use professional and cultural visits in their teaching?
Professors help you prepare questions before a visit, then lead discussions about what you observed. You use those observations alongside readings and classroom work in your assignments. The visits and coursework depend on your course and program.
How does credit transfer work for Barcelona-start Europe?
IQS School of Management issues official transcripts directly for this program. Your home university decides whether to accept the credits and how they count toward your degree. Share course materials with your advisor or study abroad office and arrange approval before relying on those credits.
How does credit transfer work for Brazil?
ESPM issues official transcripts directly for this program. Your home university decides whether to accept the credits and how they count toward your degree. Share course materials with your advisor or study abroad office and arrange approval before relying on those credits.
How does credit transfer work for Prague-start Europe?
University of New York in Prague (UNYP) issues official transcripts directly for this program. Your home university decides whether to accept the credits and how they count toward your degree. Share course materials with your advisor or study abroad office and arrange approval before relying on those credits.
Housing and student support
Where you stay and the people supporting you abroad.
Where will students stay?
Shared housing is included throughout the program in Europe and Brazil. Summit selects accommodation for safety, comfort, and access to classes and activities. Students receive location, rooming, and commute details before they go.
What kind of support will students have abroad?
Summit staff travel and stay with the group, coordinate housing and travel between program cities, and provide on-site support day and night. Faculty guide coursework and academic visits. Health insurance is included for every student for the full program; staff help arrange medical care and accompany students when needed.
Program-specific questions
Course choices and travel routes for individual programs.
What courses does Brazil include?
A1 uses one fixed 3-credit course: POR 316 Intensive Portuguese Language, Brazilian Culture, and Innovation. A2 offers BUS 318 International Business, BUS 315 Entrepreneurship in Brazil, and POR 311 Intensive Portuguese Language and Brazilian Culture. Take any one for 3 credits, or pair a morning business course with afternoon Portuguese for 6 credits. BUS 318 and BUS 315 meet at the same time and cannot be combined.
What is the Brazil route?
The route runs from São Paulo through Paraty to Rio de Janeiro in Summer 2027 and Winter 2027–2028, with different dates.
